چکیده

Using the connection between translation spreads of H(q) and linear sets (see Cardinali et al. in Eur J Comb 23:367–376, 2002; Lunardon and Polverino in J Algebraic Comb 18:255–262, 2003), some results on the existence of translation spreads of H(q) are given, improving classification results contained inOffer (Spreads and ovoids of the split Cayley hexagon, 2000) and in Bonoli and Polverino (Discrete Math 296:129–142, 2005).

Spreads , Translation Planes and Kerdock Sets

In an orthogonal vector space of type l)/(4n, q), a spread is a family of q2n-l+ totally singular 2n-spaces which induces a partition of the singular points; these spreads are closely related to Kerdock sets. In a 2m-dimensional vector space over GF(q), a spread is a family of q + subspaces of dimension m which induces a partition of the points of the underlying projective space; these spreads ...

Spreads and ovoids of finite generalized quadrangles

We survey recent results on spreads and ovoids of finite generalized quadrangles. Included in the survey are results on ovoids of PG(3, q); translation ovoids of Q(4, q); characterisations of generalized quadrangles using subquadrangles and ovoids of subquadrangles; and spreads of T2(Ω).

Orthogonal spreads and translation planes

There have been a number of striking new results concerning translation planes of characteristic 2, obtained using orthogonal and symplectic spreads. The impetus for this came from coding theory. This paper surveys the geometric advances, while providing a hint of their coding{theoretic connections.

Spreads in H(q) and 1-systems of Q(6, q )

In this paper we prove that the projections along reguli of a translation spread of the classical generalized hexagon H(q) are translation ovoids of Q(4, q). As translation ovoids of Q(4, 2r ) are elliptic quadrics, this forces that all translation spreads of H(2r ) are semi-classical. By representing H(q) as a coset geometry, we obtain a characterization of a translation spread in terms of a s...

Shult Sets and Translation Ovoids of the Hermitian Surface

Starting with carefully chosen sets of points in the Desarguesian affine plane AG(2, q2) and using an idea first formulated by E. Shult, several infinite families of translation ovoids of the Hermitian surface are constructed. Various connections with locally Hermitian 1–spreads of Q−(5, q) and semifield spreads of PG(3, q) are also discussed. Finally, geometric characterization results are dev...
